It's hot, I'm sweaty...
Hey all.
As Heather mentioned I made it over here safe and sound. I did find out once I got off the plane here that I wouldn't be working on the -53s. Instead I'm going to spend my tour making sure we keep gunships and refueling C-130s in the air. Good stuff either way! You can't have a much cooler mission.
As I mentioned in the subject, it is hot here - with highs in the mid 110s. However, and I hate to say it, it's a dry heat. So when you sweat at least it gets wicked off you and you feel a little cooler when a breeze comes through.
The lodging is ok - not as good as I had in Baghdad. There my trailer had its own bathroom to share between 4 guys. Here we have bathroom trailers where everyone does their business and takes their showers. The worst part is that I have to walk through the dust and the heat (and back!) just to get a shower.
The area is also a lot different from Baghdad. It's a lot more isolated and insulated. In Baghdad I would walk past Iraqis through metal detectors on their way in to work. I don't think I'll be seeing any Iraqis here at all.
I miss the family a lot. I brough some pictures with me, and it helps having the blog too!
If you would like to shoot me an email, I can still check my yahoo and google accounts. Also, Heather has mailing instructions for care packages and the such.
I don't have a lot else to add right now. I will try to update this fairly regularly with non-secure information and stories/musings from the desert. I won't be able to talk or write about the coolest stuff here until I get home though.
Take care.

June Happenings
So Scott has left for the desert to keep his airmen in line that work on the MH-53 helicopter and Aidan and I are free to cause all the trouble we want now (hee hee).
I've got somethings planned for the summer, besides running my Tastefully Simple biz and checking out civilian government job postings, Aidan and I will be running several 5k's with my girlfriends that are around the local area, I'll be working on "beautifying" our master bedroom, it's screaming for a "Trading Spaces" makeover! We'll be flying up to Ohio for 5 days in July to visit some friends at our last AFB we were stationed at, and then we'll be in WI for 8 days in August to visit family/friends. I'm not sure what to do yet in September for our 5th wedding anniversary since Scott won't be here to celebrate with me, that may have to be a day I treat myself to a spa or something :) Below you'll find some other things we've been doing too. -Heather

Our most recent family photo, taken the day before Scott left for the desert.

I worked on cleaning up the back patio before Scott left, it's a really nice place to relax now.

We have palm tress! They don't look like much now but they will get their palms and green out more by the fall. (Scott, imagine yourself swinging in a hammock between those trees next summer!)

My neighbor friends invited Aidan and I up to a small private air strip north of where we live to look at their plane they are fixing up. I got to go for a ride in one, a lot of the planes were out that day flying, it was like a mini air show. Across the street from the hangar were some horses that we went to feed, Aidan thought they were so funny when the horses were nuzzling him and looking for apples.

By the way, Aidan is officially crawling now, he kind of looks like a walrus trying to get across the ice half the time, but he's moving forward! I'll get video of him on here soon!

Dad's Leaving
Wow, it feels like just yesterday (and a couple blog posts ago!) that I was getting back from training in Texas. Now I'm off for a few months to Iraq. I can't - and shouldn't - post specific details on the web. However as many, if not all, of our readers know I'm taking off soon. Too soon. The silver lining is that I should be home in time for Aidan's first birthday.
I'll be staying in touch while away from the family and Heather will once again be the primary keeper of the blog. She does such a good job!
If you would like to send well wishes or care packages for my troops, you can contact Heather about shipping instructions - I'll be giving her the info when I get over there. Again, I can't post stuff like that for the world to see.
I'm going to be missing my family terribly (as I'm sure they'll be missing me) but I leave confident that they will be taken care of by our neighbors, our congregation, and our "second family" the Air Force. Keep them in your prayers!

What have we been doing?
Well, it has been quite a while since we last updated the blog. Rest assured the entire Ruppel Family is doing great. Heather has been selling "Tastefully Simple" products, Aidan has mastered the art of rolling (he's currently trying to coordinate his legs and start crawling), and Scott has been working hard as usual. The big news is that he'll be leaving again at the end of the month on a 3 month deployment. We're all bummed about that, but he should be home in time for Halloween this year (also known as Aidan's birthday!).
We've been really busy with visitors since Scott got home from his last trip. First, some of Scott's old coworkers were able to stop by while in town on business, then his parents came over for an extended weekend, finally Scott's brother, Brett, also made a visit to meet his nephew.
But you didn't visit the blog to read a play-by-play of the past month, did you? You came here to see pictures of the most popular member of the Ruppel Family. Without further aideu...

Aidan is a happy boy when the entire family is together and we have visitors!

The beach is hot, and Aidan had to cool off!

Another picture of the happy boy!

A picture of the "board" after Dad and Grandpa's fishing trip...they caught more red snapper, many weren't keepers...

The Boys!

Swimming in the neighbors pool for the first time.

Aidan felt more comfortable when Mom had control.
So that's a quick summary of what has been going on here. As you can see, we've been plenty busy - so please forgive us for not getting the blog updated more regularly!
